An excellent two stages interview made by one of the reporters from NATHA.NET with the director of Sublime Erotica, the company that was at the center of one of the allegations against NATHA by the Danish Jyllands Posten.

In the interview we can see how far from the truth the newspaper was when trying to financially and administratively connect NATHA with Sublime Erotica. In a previous reply we already showed this mistake, but this material brings clarity into this matter directly from the source.   

After we published the first part of the interview with Jean-Baptiste Miro, we received a large number of mails asking for a continuation and deepening of this discussion, therefore I decided to ask JBM for an extended open talk about tantra, erotic art, movie-making and other related topics. He was kind enough to oblige me:

AL: It seems that our last talk hit a public thirst for information in this area. Did you expect such a sudden attention for your project?
JBM: Well, I am not surprised because I really think this project is meeting a need among the people interested in and open to expanding their erotic lives consciously.  The choices are very limited in the world of erotic films, so people get interested when there is something new and perhaps more fulfilling coming to the market.

AL: You have explained a little in the first part about Sublime Erotica and its principles, but what is the difference between pornography and Sublime Erotica productions?
JBM: Pornography has a clear purpose to arouse erotic feelings as much as possible, to breaking point, so to speak, without giving them any direction or deeper meaning. Sublime Erotica on the other hand aims to show the beautiful human intimacy, love and longing that naturally comes with fulfilling erotic experiences, and more than that, we want to show how this intense and powerful connection made while making-love can be a gate to truly sublime and spiritual states. You don't see that in the average porno.

AL: In this context we saw comments in the newspaper regarding the company that is distributing your movies. Why did you consider working with a company that distributes porno movies since there is such a difference between your movies and the kind of movies this company normally sells?
JBM: Our market is still the people who are interested in exploring the world of erotica, and naturally they go to erotic film distributors like BN-Agentur. This particular company is also very open to new ideas and interested in our vision and goals.

AL: Tell me more about how Natha is involved in this project and to what extent?
JBM: Natha Yoga center is involved in the project to the extent it is involved in any of its students lives by inspiring them, giving them tools for personal development, and giving new perspectives on what is important in life and what our actual potential as human beings is, which is what any spiritual path does for its practitioners. The tantric vision taught at Natha is very complete, giving a holistic view of how the different elements of our life relate and connect, so with Tantra as inspiration, I want to explore the connection between the erotic and the spiritual through film. That is the connection with Natha Yoga center and I am grateful for it.

AL: So there is no financial connection or administrative connection with Natha as suggested by the media?
JBM: No, as I said before.

AL: Do you think that what you are doing will change people's vision upon sexuality? Why?
JBM: That is the goal. I think a growing number of people realize that there is a lot more to their sexuality than they were taught in high school or by Hollywood, so by seeing Sublime Erotica films, they can start to see how much more there is, how beautiful conscious sexuality can be. One of the main ideas which will change how people make-love, is the idea of controlling the sexual energy. As the old adage goes: either you master sex, or sex will master you.
 It is also clear that to reach for the sublime we have to change ourselves, we have to know and connect with ourselves more profoundly than usual, and we have to open to our potential to experience the kind of states, both sensual and soulful, that the sublime implies.

AL: Why do you think there is resistance to this new idea? After all our generation is the one inheriting the “sexual liberation”?
JBM: While I have met a lot of people very open to the project, there are also those who either don't understand the project or don't see the difference between Sublime Erotica and regular erotica. It is clear that while the sexual revolution of the 60's and 70's made major break-throughs in the social openness to sexuality and breaking down taboos, it didn't fundamentally revolutionize sexuality, how people use their sexuality to benefit and add to their lives. In many cases, it simply becomes a huge source of desire, which if left unfulfilled becomes a huge frustration, instead of a source of love, beauty and harmony that it can be with the right attitude which of course includes controlling the sexual energy.

AL: To what extent is it important for the people involved in your project to know the tantric teachings or to apply some basic elements in their life?
JBM: All the actors in the Sublime Erotica films are necessarily experienced tantric practitioners. They generally live by tantric principles, which is also why they participate in the project. Every tantric wants to overcome personal limitations, inhibitions and inner blockages, so for the couples in the Sublime Erotica movies it is a chance to challenge themselves while giving to the world something of the beauty they have found in tantra.

AL: So basically what you say is that the people involved are genuine practitioners and they are not just acting? How about their relationships and what this implies...?
JBM: All the actors have come to the project as couples, so they are actually sharing the most intimate part of their relationship with us. Very often, this feels like a unique privilege for me. And as we work together, following tantric ideals, they also explore open relationships and group sexual experiences which according to the tantric tradition gives a great potential for personal as well as group transformation. Obviously, such a team becomes very intimate and open.

AL: It sounds amazing what you describe about this team. The only problem seems to find the ones interested to work in this way, learning in the same time they are acting. Do you have a plan to increase the team and which is that?
JBM: The project is still in the beginning and we are working to establish ourselves in the genre, but when we have, I plan to expand the team to also include professional erotic actors who want to learn about sublime sexuality, and even to make workshops for this purpose.

AL: What are your future plans with Sublime Erotica?
JBM: The first plan is to make better and better erotic films to show more beautifully and clearly how sublime eroticism can be. The main challenge of any director is to get his vision onto the screen, and I am still working on bringing my ideals to life through all the elements of filming from lighting to acting to sound, etc. Then we are looking for more and more international distribution, and international production, to expand the scope of the project and the diversity within the films.
