From the 14th to the 15th July Bhoga hosted the 2nd Mahavidya trance festival.
The theme of this trance festival was a celebration of the great cosmic power Tara, the tantric goddess of grace and compassion. Through the ambiance created by the music, the decorations and a special ritual with the great cosmic power Tara in the start, the aim was to put the participants of the festival into a state of trance in resonance with the great cosmic power Tara.

In the course of one day Bhoga was transformed into the backdrop of a trance party festival, being covered with huge yantras and multicoloured batiks. The courtyard was turned into a multicoloured array of shops selling all kinds of refreshments and “trance-trinkets”.  So-called “dream catchers” were hung up everywhere.  A dream catcher consists of a series of round loops with nets within that catch dreams. Very poetic indeed. Huge batiks adorned the so called “chicken house” covering the faded paint. Long pieces of coloured cloth were suspended across the open areas and Tibetan flags were strung up across the faces of the buildings giving the area a very special ritualistic energy.

In the morning before the whole event started I drove to town to fetch two huge loudspeakers to be used for the trance floor and the band who would play in the opening ceremony. In a miraculous way we managed to stuff two huge loudspeakers into the van + 6 members of the band with all their instruments and 3 of their kids. Miracles are beginning to be part of my daily life!Ecotrance Festival 2007

The opening ceremony started in the garden on the trance floor with two members of the band playing the Didgeridoo and bongos. The energy of the event was so big that the moment the musicians start playing it started raining and thundering and the event was moved into the big yoga hall.
After a poetry reading accompanied by the drone of the didgeridoo the great cosmic power Tara was ritualistically borne into the room upon her throne and placed in front of the altar. After a few moments of reverence the band started playing its music.
The music is percussion based with the drone of a didgeridoo on top adorned with the strumming  of a sitar on the top. As the musicians got warmed up the beat got more loose, rythmical and relaxed and people started dancing.
The weather turns beautiful again and people start to dissipate from the hall to dance to the luring trance beats in the sun. In fact the only time it rained during the festival was the first 20 minutes! Tara is great indeed.

The music pumps through the night and we had the feeling that we were awakening the whole neighbourhood, not only in the physical sense of the word but also spiritually. Vejby is a sleepy town which needs the input of beautiful young people dancing for a higher purpose embodied in the great cosmic power Tara. Some days before some of the organizers had visited all the neighbours to warn them about the party and the noise of the music. The neighbours welcomed this and were positive towards us. I can feel as I sit here writing the article in the middle of the night how the energy is dispelling the sleepy cobwebs from Vejby creating a new revitalized Bhoga. Ultimately trance music is a music of freedom which with its insisting pumping rhythms awakens the kundalini of the dancers purifying the bodies and minds and leading to high altered states of consciousness, and all this without the aid of drugs or other stimulants. The music is enough alone.
My heart bubbles as I feel the subtle impact of an event like this one is very big.

While some people are dancing in the garden, others were purifying themselves by the big bonfire where fire dancers entertained with spectacular shows.
At the same time spiritual movies were being projected in one of the rooms. The room was a little oasis where people who needed a "timeout" can “retreat” into a more contemplative environment and watch movies about relevant issues. I watched a movie about the fantastic qualities of water. I was amazed. Water stores information and responds to the emotions of people. If you say thank you to the water, beautiful crystals form in it, but if you play heavy metal to your water it forms malformed crystals. It was definitely food for thought.

During the night DJ Merlin Musicus pumped up the outdoor trance floor with tunes that became progressively more and more intense sublimating the audience who by now had entered a state of trance. He was himself in a deep state of trance looking like a mad magician behind his mixer waving his hands in the air rocking back and forth wildly swinging his big dreadlocks. I tend to think that he was born into this life with dreadlocks on his head clutching a mixer and a handful of discs under his arm.

To celebrate the rising of the sun the music that was played changed to be more ethereal in its qualities. A more light kind of trance music which evokes fairy like beings and a bigger communion with nature.
After sunrise, the party moved to the courtyard where people enjoyed their meals and danced as the trance music flowed out of the loudspeakers creating an incredible atmosphere. This trance like state continued all day and we all seem to be one vibrating being in tune with the music. Even the very buildings of Bhoga seem to join into our celebration of life.

Now, after the event is over and we all are gasping for air but are deeply happy in our souls.

We look forward to host the next Eco trance festival!
