by natha.net The question I asked myself after listening to Mr. Stoian’s introduction to “The man with the Shaven Head” (1966, Andre Delvaux) was like springing from an ancient greek aphorism: is beauty and spirituality really in the eye of the viewer? Or can a movie be spiritual as it is suggested in the name of Natha’s cinema club: ´Catharsis` Spiritual Cinema Club ?
A bright answer took shape while entering the universe of the Belgian movie; the far eastern vision pouring from the Tantras was naturally giving meaning to dozens of tragic ended western movies which I’ve devoured in my teenage movie fan years. Yes…with lucidity and detachment given by the attentive application of the basic Tantric principles the emptiness and madness of this sadly beautiful movie could be in a magic way transformed. Yes…the esthetic experience – when filtered through a higher perspective – can bring great lessons about how NOT to live my life and how NOT to feign ‘love’ and Yes… in this oasis of positive openness and healthy thoughtfulness given by the oriental perspective left my soul shinning above the tragic abyss of the western thinking with courage and victorious lucidity.
