We left Denmark on 26th February, bound for the motherland of all yogic disciplines, including Tantra. This was to be my first time in India, previous attempts all being aborted in the last minute. Finally I was to find out first hand what all the fuss is about…
We flew via the Middle East, transiting in Doha, the capital of the small Arab nation of Qatar. Suddenly our pale skin, t-shirts and bare faces were potentially scandalous. All eyes were upon us. And our eyes upon them! It fascinated me to actually see women dressed from head to toe in black fabric, revealing only their eyes, and the men all in white with red checked head scarves. Although it all appears quite odd and oppressive to me, the women have an air of mystery about them which is harder to attain in a pair of jeans and a singlet. After our 2 hours in the Doha airport, where the duty free shops sell Mercedes Benz and BMW 24 carat gold chains for your mobile phone, we boarded for Chennai. The excitement mounted as we landed in the South Indian city, and by the time we were in the taxi I could barely contain myself – I was in India!! Suddenly I was flooded with the realization of the spiritual greatness of this nation, at least historically. Ramakrishna, Paramahansa Yogananda, Ramana Maharishi, Sri Yukteswar, Babaji, Ma Ananda Moyi..and the list goes on, the enlightened ones who had incarnated on this planet to help other beings attain self-realisation and who had all fulfilled their spiritual missions here in India.
We were greeted at the airport by Vishnu, who took us to Hotel Kailash, where we had swimming pool and open air cinema where we could get our Bollywood kicks every night, to Maria’s delight. Sadly though, Mih couldn’t get mobile phone reception at Kailash and so we reluctantly repacked and headed for downtown horn blaring Chennai. We ended up in a hotel in the city where they blasted us with air conditioning while outside it was only 30 degrees and extremely pleasant! They refused to turn it down so blankets and curtains sufficed to block the vents, a bit. Now I understand why people get colds and pneumonia in sticking hot India. Our first shopping expedition in India was to the bookstore. Mih selected spiritual books while Adina read us cheeky quotations from pocket sized gift books. He was in a transcendent state, deeply absorbed in the task at hand, while she bounced around him spontaneously.
Upon returning to the hotel and preparing for following days’ Tantra lectures, Mih opened some of the newly purchased books on the subject. To his amazement the words he read were his very own. The content of these books was taken directly from lectures and articles written by Mihai and published on www.natha.net! When Indian authors of repute are plagiarizing the ideas of Romanian yoga teachers it becomes obvious there is something wrong with the spiritual state of India. Through this example it becomes increasingly clear to me the importance of this trip to India, of the seminars that Mih and Adina are keeping here, and ultimately of MISA’s mission on a planetary level. If India, the home of yoga and Tantra and to many of the great liberated beings who have existed and the recognized centre of spirituality on Earth has to look beyond its borders for spiritual inspiration then do genuine tantric teachings still exist here in India? On Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd Mih and Adina gave their first lectures for the Indian audience. More about this to come very soon!! Seminars by Mihai and Adina Stoian: Chennai, Saturday 1.03.08 The science of Tantra Yoga for happiness and harmony in couple relationships
