Last week we paid a visit to EnlightenNext organization (founded by Andrew Cohen) in Copenhagen, to see what that is all about. We were welcomed by Peter Bastian (famous Danish music player) and he introduced us to the first part of the teachings – the guided meditation.

In the introduction to the meditation he explained to those present there their approach on guided meditation. Generally, people when they meditate they want to have a specific experience – this is the narcissistic approach, which bonds you to that experience. Freedom is a perspective, it is not a feeling, a thought, an emotion, freedom is what is beyond thoughts and feelings. The meditation is approached as a direct meditation to enlightenment, with no connection to the experience itself. There is a fascination, a preoccupation for the content of the mind. Through this guided meditation, no manipulation of the mind is intended, no process. The point is to just surrender to what is, as whatever is there does not matter, it is not “me” anyway. The inner attitude is not defending; it is actually a total openness, complete vulnerability – a total non identification with any of emotions, thoughts, experiences. “I am immovable like a stone.”  The meditation itself was powerful. Here is the personal experience of my friend and colleague Adriana Mihai:

“Slowly, a relaxation field was generated by the suggestions induced through Peter Bastian’s guidance: “I am not the mind, the feelings, the experience… I am beyond the mind, the feeling, the thoughts…” Gradually, I managed to let aside the sensations of the physical body and secondarily mind preoccupations and I entered the wonderful world of the Self. In there indeed there is no thought. In there, there is only the state of being. In there, you are pure and simple, surrendered to God or to the Authentic Self (as they call it).
I had the pleasant surprise to notice that the meditation, as it was supported by all who were present there, brought me to the same spiritual state of profound communion with my self, with my essence, the divine spark in me, which I have perceived in the meditations for Revelation of the Self, done over years of intense yoga practice. To me, this shows the authenticity of the teachings.”

As we said, the guided meditation is the first step. It is the tool to take one inside and reach inner stillness – inner freedom. The second step is to keep this inner state while being active in the outside world, without losing it. For this, EnlightenNext organization has various workshops in which different practices are presented. You can find out more about this by visiting www.wie.org.

After the guided meditation we had tea and cakes with Mr. Peter Bastian and Mr. Jon Bertelsen and they gave us more details about the goal and approach of Andrew Cohen’s teachings.

One aspect is the perspective of the future. It is pointless to be in the now, in the present moment, as once you are in it, it is already gone. It is what comes next that matters. Whatever desire you might have, whatever past conditioning you might have, it does not matter, as the answer to “what is next?” is to be sought.  Nevertheless, to find the answer to “what is next?” and to stay with it is a narcissistic approach, it bonds you to the experience itself and it makes you stuck in your ego. The purpose of this search is continuous transformation of the individual. We must admit that this particular approach makes us wonder: does this continuous race give us the chance to notice God?
Another aspect is related to the fact that this transformation is better when done in a group rather then alone. Because then the field is stronger and it is easier to see, as the others reflect you, if you are really transforming or you are just having a good time by yourself, doing something you consider spiritual. Meeting with the group is a great opportunity to leave out the ego and your individual life and bring to the group the Authentic Self. Our hosts were happy to tell us that in the last one year and a half they have succeed to create within their group of followers this special state of communion, where they all meet as one. Through common and constant efforts, the entity of the group was created and now it is stable. Now it is visible for all within the group that there is no place for the ego and selfish interests if people want to be united and that this unity of people is to be sought, because it increases the power of transformation, it brings people closer to their Authentic Self, faster.
