Continuously they vibrate. Sometimes we wear them at the ankle of our heart and they make us dance in our inner world, like dervishes drunk with joy. In fact, we all can bring light or storms with the help of the words we believe in and the words we use. Words are universes and if we rise or if we crash through them, this is always our choice. To name something means to affirm its existence and to invoke its presence. Therefore, a magical mentality forbids people to speak directly about dangerous things and beings. Peasants from the Apuseni mountains (n.t. Romania) do not dare to call the bear in the forest anything other than Bruin. They do not venture to call God’s reckless adversary by name, but they call him the Wicked One, the Dark one or the evildoer. Contemporary psychology discovered that words trigger biochemical effects and physiological effects which produce profound satisfaction or real inner disasters. A violent or mean approach dramatically increases the blood pressure, the rhythm of the breath and tension in the muscles of the interlocutor, while affectionate words relax him and make him blush with happiness. The revelation of such an impact motivates us to step up our sense of responsibility. Especially because the first ones who listen are… us. Used wrongly, our own words spoken, even at the level of thought, come against us. Like the weapons of clumsy recruits who shoot their own feet. In most languages, the words which are able to induce negative states are used three times more than the words that describe positive feelings. For specialists, this fact is just an observation. But for those determined to transform the way they think, feel and act, this statistic rapport is a challenge which requires three times more lucidity; an impulse to replace the usual toxic affirmations with some which are full of energy, optimistic and beneficial. Do you want your words to become a part of your daily spiritual practice? In order to develop the awareness that identifies negative automatisms and formulations one needs training, indeed. But you can start something important right now – to say “thank you”, from the bottom of your heart. Dare to repeat in your mind: “Thank you”. It is a word that instantly triggers the energy of gratitude. Don’t you find many reasons to be grateful? If you look carefully, you can find plenty. However small they may seem, it is worth bowing to them with your soul and saying ‘Thank you’ again and again. Nothing of what you receive is just yours. Each breath you take is a divine privilege, an overwhelming proof of love. The universe gives you all its gifts. Is it cold and grey today? Thank the light shimmering under the clouds; for the little delights that fragrance, taste, sight, touch and hearing offer you. Give thanks for the food on the table, the house that protects you from bad weather, the people who received you in their hearts, the friendly smile of a stranger; for freedom and peaceful times, for each stroke of beauty that you witness; for everything that makes you laugh out loud; for whatever impresses and touches you, for whatever charms you; for all that happens to you or to others, even if you do not know them. As often as possible during the day, say "Thank you". Do this exercise of gratitude for a week, a month, or a year. Until the heart itself reverberates and is filled with mysterious sweetness. And do you know the great secret? Do not sigh; do not regret anything that you do not have yet. Do not pray to receive the things you wish for. Just be thankful for them with fervour without getting tired. Give thanks for everything life offers you right now. Give thanks in the present.
