by natha.net On Saturday, March 8th, Saint Stephens church hosted the launching of the book: “The pearl of Sufism”, by Dr. Seyed Azmayesh, a living Sufi master and a scholar.
His mission is to present the wisdom of Sufism to the world. The event consisted of a movie projection and playing of Rhythmical sounds. The movie took the viewer step by step through the Sufi tradition. Sufism is the way of unity, of love, of tolerance and especially the path of the heart – the path of substantial evolution. Its mission is to guide the individual towards God. Sufis considered the heart as the dwelling place of the soul. The Sufi makes the connection to his heart by the use of rhythms. For this, a group of women delighted the audience with rhythmical sounds, specific to the Sufi tradition.
Sufism is a spiritual path that started at the beginning of the history of humanity. It is a living stream, going on from master to master, connected to great prophets like Mohammad, Jesus and Moses. The book shows a fascinating perspective at the on going line of mysticism and the teachings of Jesus and it offers convincing evidences which can lead to a complete new understanding of the roots of religion. The teachings of the book are seasoned with wisdom and compassion, illustrated with a lot of original Sufi stories. The “pearl of Sufism” is the substance of mankind and it does not exist by itself. It is the pearl in the oyster, the seed in the ocean. The ocean has different layers. The surface is at the top and from here, in order to find the pearl, we need to go to the depths of the ocean – meaning, to the depths of oneself. The soul is pure, therefore the aim is to reach the soul by emptying the mind of thoughts, with the help of drum rhythms. The heart is the gate to the other world, the world of light. The experience is through love – love takes the individual from darkness to light
